Windows 10 Update Bug Locks your Machine
The Windows 10 April 2018 update has brought along with it a bug. This bug will lock/freeze your windows 10 machine. Some people have posted on sites such as reddit, twitter etc. in search of answers. Some reports even state that sort cuts such as, ctrl - alt - delete had no effect on the machine.
The update however does not affect all windows 10 machines. Newer machines, in particular ones running on the newer Intel integrated graphics have their owners facing troubles. "Some devices may hang or freeze when using certain apps, such as Hey Cortana or Chrome after installing the Windows 10 April 2018 update," (Guardian) said a Microsoft agent on the company's support forums. This is reassuring as it shows that it is not the hardware, but the software and also shows that Microsoft are aware of the situation and are taking the time to inform users of the current predicament.
Microsoft have suggested (along with many individuals) solutions to fix affected machines by either closing the lid on a laptop and opening it back up again or on tablets, pressing the volume up and volume down buttons on the side of the machine simultaneously three times within two seconds. By doing these two things you are refreshing the machines screen, this lets the machine recalculate what is meant to be happening on the screen and should resolve the issue temporarily until Microsoft releases an update. Another option is a shortcut (Windows key - ctrl - shift - B).
This issue is one that Microsoft shouldn't have let slip through the testing stage. It is unprofessional and has affected many people during their work, browsing or even gaming time. This issue has given many people headaches and have even led people to believe that their new hardware could be damaged or faulty. Although many people have it out for Microsoft, we have to give them credit for releasing a bug fix fast (8/05/18) and apologising for the inconveniences.
